I come from a very large Hispanic / Latinx family. Meaning parties were a common occurrence. The adrenaline leading up to the event is something I just cannot explain. From picking a venue, to choosing the food and drinks; it truly is a one of a kind experience.
So, yes, I LOVED the process of party planning. Maybe even more than the party itself.
The whole process speaks to my type A personality. I am extremely organized and combine that with my creative side, you get an event service business.
Since a very young age I had an entrepreneurial spirit. In elementary school I would buy and sell pencils and erasers. Leading me to transition into selling gum in middle school. Now, high school was were I began to really expand business. I sold mini bags of assorted snacks and ran a small makeshift cafe stand on fridays. To this day I thank the high school staff for allowing me to explore my entrepreneurial skills.
In college I majored in Political Science (Pre-Law) and double minored in Business Admin and Medieval History. Unfortunately, because of an illness I was unable to finish college. I went straight into the workforce. While in high school I had worked for AMC theaters. This was around 2014, so I had to quit to attend college in 2016. Fortunately I had left a great impression and was able to go back until I figured out my next move. I went back in 2018 and in between those two years from 2016 and 2018, AMC had gone through some intense renovations. IT HAD A WHOLE BAR?!
And that is when my passion for bartending begins. One stormy and busy night, the bartender called in and said he wouldn't be able to make it to work. We were stretched thin with staffing that night. Plus, most of the available crew members were 16. Being one of the older crew members at 18, I was in training for a supervisor position. The manager pulled me aside and asked me for the favor that truly puts me here today. Without prior training, besides your basic home style cocktails, I was placed behind the bar counter to face a crowd of about 100.
At first, I was truly out of my comfort zone, but within minutes I was in this state of adrenaline. a rush of energy as I prepared drinks, took payments and answered questions. I LOVED it.
After that I was the go-to person to cover bartenders. I believed at some point I would bartend for AMC once a position opened up but, life likes to make things interesting. I received a call offer for a position more related to what I had studied. I tried keeping both jobs but things quickly became complicated. I made the tough decision and quit AMC theaters.
Since then my life has taken all sorts of turns.
I always loved the art of creating cocktails and the essence of a nice wine. The technicalities of the craftsmanship of a good beer.
Cheers to being part of our journey!!
We are just getting started and I hope you stay along for the ride!
